THE LIVING MEMORY PROJECT

About the Living Memory Project CIC

We work with individuals, communities, and organisations across the West Midlands in the UK to co-create meaningful projects that celebrate people and place—where arts, heritage, and everyday culture meet to spark connection, creativity, and foster a sense of belonging.

We are passionate about oral history and believe that everyone’s story matters. Many of our projects are designed to amplify underrepresented voices, preserve important memories, and spark reflection and dialogue around the meaning of community, identity, and belonging.

We often work with personal and at-risk archives, producing related exhibitions, films, publications, events, and workshops. At its heart, our work explores how creativity and shared history can deepen our understanding of the past, strengthen well-being, and reimagine what heritage can be.

We seek to collaborate with like-minded organisations to develop participatory projects alongside artists, filmmakers, oral historians, archivists, and community groups. Over the past few years, we’ve delivered a diverse range of creative heritage projects that reflect the richness of our approach.

Living Memory: Life Stories and Photography Collections from across the Black Country explored personal and family photography as a way to share life stories, preserve local heritage, and spark intergenerational dialogue.
Our Commonwealth, commissioned as part of the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games Festival, brought together stories and creative responses from across the West Midlands to explore themes of community service, migration, and resilience.

We believe that in a world of rapid change, arts and heritage anchor us. They help us understand who we are, where we’ve come from, and who we might become. We’re passionate about creating moments where culture feels alive, inclusive, and full of possibility.
