Photography and Life Stories of the Black Country
The Photography and Life Stories from across the Black Country project was a celebration of life, memory, and community, bringing together life stories and photographs from personal collections and family albums. In collaboration with local residents, we explored the rich history and personal narratives of the Black Country, capturing the essence of its people and places.
Funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund and Arts Council England, the project recorded over 60 long-form oral history recordings, presented 20 unique exhibitions across the region, and hosted more than 100 sharing events, screenings, and training days. These activities not only showcased the stories and images but also brought people together to celebrate their shared history and creativity.
The project was a tribute to the people and the unique indentiy of the Black Country, recording stories and experiences that reflect the enduring spirit of the region. The project ran from 2018 to 2022.
